Location
Located in a volcano that rivalled the size of Benden Weyr on the eastern end of the Western Barrier Range. The Weyr is surrounded on all sides by lush green forest. The Rubicon River that feeds the Sea of Azov is northeast of Darwin's Weyr. The Weyrbowl is actually a valley inside the dormant volcano, lush with greenery all around. The valley measures an incredible 45 dragonlengths. Completely rivaling Benden Weyr.
Hatching Grounds
The Hatching Grounds is approximately seven dragonlengths in circumference. The sand, though is a mix of black and gray. The Sands is located on the north end of the Weyrbowl, with both an airial entry and a ground one. The ground entrance is big enough to allow the largest Opal onto the grounds. The stands circle the whole entire Sands, except for the entrance, to allow a circular view of any Hatchings.
Murrah Lake
Murrah Lake takes up one quarter of the eastern side of the Weyrbowl. It's crystal clear all the way down the forty five meters to the bottom. Like Benden Weyr, the water is sweet to the taste. Murrah Lake also contains the same water plants, snails, algae, and grasses as Benden Weyr. The lake is shaped into a large and wide crescent moon shape along the stone wall of the Weyrbowl.
Lower Caverns
The Lower Caverns is two Opal dragonlengths wide and that many deep. The Whole Weyr is littered with lava made tunnels that had been smoothed out by Miners and Smiths before the Weyr was liveable. Now, over one hundred riders call Darwin's Weyr home, along with nearly ninety weyrfolk in residence.
Darwin Hold
Location
On the western side of the Sea of Azov(Caspian Lake?), at the confluence between the edge of the wide Rubicon River and the small inner sea, a small body of water full of tiny upthrust islands, stands the high palisade of granite cliffs that once housed Xanadu Stakehold. Wide stone steps were cut in the granite leading down to the lake shore. (excerpt from DLG. I do not claim this to be of my own creation. All rights are Anne McCafery's.) Though before anyone could call it home again, the Hold was redone to be liveable.
Main Hall
The Main Hall is very stoic and solemn on outward appearances. But once you step inside the walls of he Main Hall, engraved murals can be seen on the ceiling and intricately woven rugs depicting Threadfall scenes and one Hatching scene hung on the walls. Four fire hearths greet you with roaring fires in the winter, now lay dormant during the Spring and Summer months. The Main Hall is the beginning of the Hold. The Hold itself is four stories minus the level that is bellow ground. The underground level is used mainly for storage. The main level, ground level, is for ttending guests, Kitchens, Dining Hall, Lord Holder's office, and the Steward's Office. As well as the Captain of the Guard's office.
Beastcraft Hall
The Beastcraft Hall is located in the western side of the Sea of Azov, where a small river meets the small sea. The buildings of the Hall is constructed of stone and metal from the Smiths in the North. The Beastcraft Hall is well known for it's delicious bovine meat, as well as for the cows. The Beastcraft Hall boasts its famous Beasthealer division with Master Beasthealer Nayion, who is also the youngest Master on Pern.
