In one night peace was destroyed. A group of bronzeriders from dying Northern Weyr snuck south and stole the gold egg. Enraged the Southern Weyr fought to get the egg back but were unsuccessful, the gold egg Impressed a Northern girl. Several battles were fought and finally all was quiet.
The South did not forget the theft though and when they felt the time was right for a war, they kidnapped their own Lord Holder's wife and took her north. To their surprise she married Northern Weyr's weyrleader which caused Lord Gaius to demand the riders return her. Southern riders agreed and they flew north.
The battle was horrendous, Southern lost half it's fighting force and it's two fertile queens. With no gold egg on their sands and their Sr. queen to old to fly, it seemed Southern was doom to die. In a daring venture, Southern riders went North and stole eight eggs from Northern Weyr. A retaliation of the act that had started the war Turns before. Among those eight eggs was the metallic shell of gold.
Now Northern Weyr prepares for it's Weyrleader flight. The man who wins knows he will have to lead his wings against Southern in an attempt to retrieve the stolen egg. Southern prepares for a Hatching, each rider hoping the gold will hatch before Northern wings appear. While the riders fight amongst themselves, they miss the political manuverings of the Holds and Crafthalls. If they are not careful the dragonriders will find themselves sworn to obey Lord Holders and Masterharpers. Will the legacy of Pern go up in fire and blood?
